Energy Production
The Muskegon County Wastewater Management System produces energy using a hydroelectric plant, and our on-site County landfill pumps its methane gas 6.5 miles to local industries for direct burning.
Other possibilities include generating energy from waste grease, storage lagoon
algae, wind, corn and soybean grain, and livestock waste in the form of methane, electricity, ethanol, or bio-diesel.
If you have an energy idea that could take advantage of the possibilites created by the MCWMS site, contact wastewater engineer Vivek Singh at 231-724-3434 or singhvi@co.muskegon.mi.us or economic development specialist Rich Houtteman at 231-724-3181 or rhoutteman@muskegon.org.
